Overview
Following a major refurbishment that included installing a 10kW heat pump, our client experienced a sharp rise in electricity demand and wanted to control future energy costs.
They chose to invest in a combined Solar PV and battery storage system to generate and store renewable energy on-site, reducing reliance on the grid and making long-term savings. Central to their decision was adopting the SolarEdge ecosystem, a smart choice driven by its proven performance, advanced safety features, and long-term durability. SolarEdge’s panel-level optimisation and monitoring offered the client complete transparency over system performance, while its industry-leading safety technology provided peace of mind, which is especially important for a property that had just undergone significant upgrades.
The system was configured to take advantage of ‘time-of-use’ functionality, allowing the battery to charge during off-peak periods, or from surplus solar, and discharge during peak demand, maximising returns under the Octopus Energy ‘Flux’ tariff.
The client also opted for a Simpson & Partners EV charger, selected not only for its sleek design, which complemented the aesthetics of the newly refurbished property, but also for its smart capabilities, which enabled seamless integration into the wider energy system. Together, these choices reflect a forward-thinking, data-led approach to energy management—one that prioritises efficiency, safety, and future flexibility.

System Components
Viridian in roof Solar Panels: The installation uses premium Longi solar panels, known for their excellent efficiency and sleek aesthetics.
SolarEdge Power Optimisers: Each panel is equipped with a SolarEdge power optimiser, which enables individual panel monitoring and performance optimisation. This technology mitigates the effects of partial shading and ensures maximum energy harvest from each panel.
SolarEdge Home Battery: The installation includes a 20kWh SolarEdge Home Battery, which provides significant energy storage capacity. This DC-coupled battery system allows efficient energy storage and utilisation, minimising conversion losses.
SolarEdge Synergy Inverter: The system features a SolarEdge inverter, which works with power optimisers to convert DC electricity from the panels into AC power for home use. This inverter is designed for seamless integration with the SolarEdge ecosystem, including the battery storage system.
Doncaster PV Ultra Cabling: PV-Ultra cables are engineered explicitly for DC installations in photovoltaic systems. Designed with high-quality materials for an anticipated lifespan of about 25 years and can operate at average maximum conductor temperatures of 90°C, with short-term tolerance up to 120°C.
Simpson & Partners: The Simpson & Partners home charger offers a combination of elegant design, robust construction, and intelligent features that make it an appealing option for those wanting a high-end EV charging solution.
System Benefits
Optimised Energy Production: The combination of Viridian panels and SolarEdge power optimisers ensures each panel operates at its maximum potential, increasing overall system yield.
Smart Energy Management: The SolarEdge inverter and battery work together to optimise energy usage. Excess solar energy is stored in the battery during peak demand periods or when sunlight is unavailable.
Backup Power: With 30kWh of storage capacity, the system can provide substantial backup power during grid outages, enhancing household energy security.
Monitoring and Control: The SolarEdge monitoring platform allows homeowners to track system performance, energy production, consumption, and storage in real time through a user-friendly app.
Scalability: The SolarEdge system is designed for easy expansion, allowing homeowners to add more panels or increase battery capacity in the future if needed. This solar PV installation represents a comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to residential solar energy, offering high performance, energy independence, and smart home integration.
