1 year on from his original installation, our client chose to expand his ground-mounted solar PV system and add more battery storage to get the most out of his investment. By increasing his solar capacity and pairing it with batteries, he’s able to store more clean energy for use when the sun isn’t shining, further cutting his energy bills, and shrinking his carbon footprint.

This move not only boosts his energy independence but also maximises the financial and environmental benefits of his renewable setup, showing a smart approach to sustainable living.

During 2025, Dan has consumed 83% of his total generation and reduced his overall energy bill by more than 50%.

Viridian Solar Panels: The installation uses 67 premium Viridian solar panels, known for their excellent efficiency and sleek aesthetics. These panels are designed to capture sunlight effectively, even in less-than-ideal conditions. 60 PVs make up a ground mounted solar array around the pool house and utilises surplus available space on the plot to maximise solar generation.

VAK Solar ground mounting system: A versatile solution for installing solar panels on various flat terrains. It’s designed for easy installation and utilises concrete blocks to secure the system without requiring drilling into the ground.

SolarEdge Power Optimisers: Each PV is equipped with a SolarEdge power optimiser (67 in total), which enables individual panel monitoring and performance optimisation. This technology mitigates the effects of partial shading and ensures maximum energy harvest from every panel.

SolarEdge Inverter: The system features 2 SolarEdge inverters, which works with power optimisers to convert DC electricity from the panels into AC power for home use. This inverter is designed for seamless integration with the SolarEdge ecosystem, including the battery storage system.

SolarEdge Home Battery: The installation includes 2 robust 23kWh SolarEdge Home Battery (doubling the previous capacity to 46kWh), which provides significant energy storage capacity. This DC-coupled battery system allows for efficient energy storage and utilisation, minimising conversion losses.

Doncaster PV Ultra Cabling: PV-Ultra cables are engineered explicitly for DC installations in photovoltaic systems. Designed with high-quality materials for an anticipated lifespan of about 25 years and can operate at average maximum conductor temperatures of 90°C, with short-term tolerance up to 120°C.

Optimised Energy Production: The combination of Viridian panels and SolarEdge power optimisers ensures each panel operates at its maximum potential, increasing overall system yield.

Smart Energy Management: The SolarEdge inverter and battery work together to optimise energy usage. Excess solar energy is stored in the battery during peak demand periods or when sunlight is unavailable.

Backup Power: With 46kWh of storage capacity, the system can provide substantial backup power during grid outages, enhancing household energy security.

Monitoring and Control: The SolarEdge monitoring platform allows homeowners to track system performance, energy production, consumption, and storage in real time through a user-friendly app.

Scalability: The SolarEdge system is designed for easy expansion, allowing homeowners to add more panels or increase battery capacity in the future if needed. This solar PV installation represents a comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to residential solar energy, offering high performance, energy independence, and smart home integration.
